Why did you choose to work at UMD?
I wanted to work for UMD because of its strong standing within the community and the potential to effect positive change not only locally but also on a statewide level through the impactful programs integrated within the Center.
What do you like most about your job?
I truly enjoy the energy on campus and I love being involved with the work being done by the Center. I appreciate the opportunity to support great programs like the IV-E program that supports child welfare scholars, which in turn strengthens our child welfare system, and the Upward Bound program that supports low-income and 1st generation students pursuing higher education.
Do you have any advice for students?
Try to immerse yourself in your undergraduate and graduate studies while you are in them. It can sometimes feel like a grind when you are in the middle of a degree but down the line, you will look back and realize it was some of the most inspiring and impactful times of personal growth.
What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time, I stay busy in my role as a volunteer firefighter and EMT serving my community in rural Duluth. I also love spending time with my partner and our two dogs, especially doing things to enjoy the outdoors like kayaking and snowshoeing.
