Staff spotlight: Shelby Swanson

Meet Shelby Swanson, who serves as the executive office and administrative specialist for the Accreditation, Licensure and Field Experience (ALFE) office

When did you start at UMD?

I started back in March of 2022. A little over a year ago!

Why did you choose to work at UMD?

I know several people who have worked at UMD in the past and they all had very positive experiences. I'm also a lifelong Bulldog hockey fan, so that's the other reason I jumped at the opportunity to work here!

What do you like most about your job?

I love working with the students along with my team members and the faculty! Our office is very student-centric and it's always a pleasure to support them on their journey.

Do you have any advice for students?

Self-care is extremely important! Manage your daily schedule effectively, so you can find time for yourself and fully enjoy the college experience.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I am a HUGE movie buff, so I really enjoy going to the movies with friends & family! I like most genres of film, but I tend to lean towards suspense/thriller and horror. I also enjoy writing short plays/screenplays for fun! Music is another passion of mine and I like strumming away on the guitar in my free time. In the summertime, I love kayaking and have started to learn how to play pickleball.
