Staff spotlight: Shelley Michalicek

Meet Shelley Michalicek, a staff member in the Department of Education.

What is your title/role?

Administrative Associate 2

When did you start working at UMD/with CEHSP?

I started at UMD in 1984 in the Professional Education Department/College of Education, which was the Secondary Teacher Education Program.

Why did you choose to work at UMD?

The aspect of working in an educational setting and helping students was a big factor.

What do you like most about your job?

I have really enjoyed the challenges of the various positions I’ve held over the years. My current position has many facets to it, and I love helping to put the pieces together to find answers.

What advice do you have for students?

Your time at UMD will go quickly. Be intentional and take advantage of every opportunity you can to learn and grow as a person.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I love spending time with my family, especially my 1-year-old grandson! I enjoy traveling, yoga, cooking, baking and cake decorating and have a never-ending pile of new recipes to try. If I am not in the kitchen, you can find me in the outdoors gardening, walking/hiking, camping, BWCAW paddling, cross-country skiing, or snowshoeing.
