Staff spotlight: Stacy Seminara

Meet Stacy Seminara, academic advisor in the CEHSP Academic & Advising Services office.

When did you start working at UMD/with CEHSP?

February 2016, but spent a few years during undergrad/grad school as a student employee (back in the day).

Why did you choose to work at UMD?

As a double alum (Psychology BASc and Social Work MSW), I love the energy of being on campus. It's electric!

What do you like most about your job?

The students, of course! I get to stand in the space between a person's childhood and their adulthood (or in some cases, between an existing life path and a new one), and it's an honor to be someone students can count on to support them through that transition.

What advice do you have for students?

I am being limited to one piece of advice here but there are many, many things I wish I would have understood as a student that might be helpful for others. One is to trust in the process. It can feel so scary to not know what's going to happen in the future, but try to be open to life, take some chances, and know that you will find a way.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I have two young kiddos so they keep me plenty busy(!) but in my free time, I love to drive up the North Shore and find new hidden places to hike, hammock, and read. A perfect outing with the family would be a day of four-wheeling, a good meal with a decadent dessert, and binge-watching "Expedition Unknown."
