Courtney Cochran, MSW, LGSW, received her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Minnesota Duluth in 2015. Her social work career has been split between direct service and public policy and community organizing work. The majority of this work has focused on affordable housing and rural food access in Northeast Minnesota. In this work, Courtney has developed programming, developed and led training, drafted ordinances/legislation, chaired coalitions, written grants, and launched campaigns at local and state-levels. Courtney also has a deep history of community engagement work centered on LGBTQIA liberation and dismantling white supremacy.
Courtney joined UMD in September 2019 as the Associate Director of Field Education. In this role, Courtney assists students and agencies in making social work field placements successful experiences. Outside of work, Courtney enjoys kayaking and hiking on the North Shore and is an avid gardener and chicken parent.
