UMD Field Program COVID-19 Resource Page

We hope that whether you are a current student, potential student, field supervisor, or community member you will be able to access information about our field program requirements, as well as other field resources at this site.

Our MSW Field Director is Sara Lien and our BSW Field Director is Laura Brandt.  Additionally we have a dedicated group of field faculty members who work with students every year in an effort to make field placements rewarding for both MSW field students and human service agencies.

We are especially proud of our emphasis on working with diverse populations, tribal and rural communities. We have over 200 field agencies approved for field placements at the present time.

In 2012 we were one of only 13 social work programs in the country to receive a Mental and Behavioral Health Education and Training grant from the Health Services and Resources Administration (HRSA). This allowed us to provide paid clinical field placements for 24 MSW students over a 3-year period from 2012-2015.

We have a tradition of outstanding MSW students. In June of 2012, Bryana Cook was recognized by the Minnesota Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) as the "MSW Student of the Year. Prior to this in 2009, two of our students were honored as co-winners of the NASW "MSW Student of the Year" Award.

If you would like more information about our program and cannot find the answers here, please contact Sara Lien at 218-726-8353 or [email protected] or Laura Brandt at 218-726-6205 or [email protected]
