- Double major: Consult Stephanie Gillman, [email protected], for expectation
- Secondary double majors: UMD students seeking two standalone STEP licensures require 12 weeks of student teaching in a secondary placement in one of their licensure areas (e.g., Social Studies). The second licensure area (e.g., Math) is a secondary placement, but the length of the placement is a minimum of 4 weeks, and the content area faculty determines additional hours.
- Secondary & K-12 double majors: UMD students seeking two standalone licensures require 12 weeks of student teaching placement in one of their licensure areas (in the scope, they still need field experience). The second licensure area placement (in the scope, they have not yet had field experience), but the length of the placement is a minimum of 4 weeks, and the content area faculty determine additional hours. For example, the student has a double major in Art (K-12) and Social Studies (5-12). A sample student teaching placement could be 12 weeks for grades 5-8 Art and 4 weeks for grades 9-12 Social Studies (the scope of their placement is based on what field experience they have yet to experience). The content area faculty determines additional hours.
- K-12 double majors: UMD students seeking two standalone licensures require 12 weeks of student teaching placement in one of their licensure areas (in the scope, they still need field experience). The second licensure area placement (in the scope, they have not yet had field experience), but the length of the placement is a minimum of 4 weeks, and the content area faculty determine additional hours. For example, the student has a double major in Art (K-12) and Physical Education (K-12). A sample student teaching placement could be 12 weeks for grades 5-8 Art and 4 weeks for grades 9-12 Physical Education (the scope of their placement is based on what field experience they have yet to experience). The content area faculty determines additional hours.

Apply for Student Teaching in Tk20
Student teaching placements are made by the Accreditation, Licensure, and Field Experience Office after a teacher candidate applies for student teaching. STEP faculty review the teacher candidates application and decide if the student teacher will student teach abroad or at a distance site.
After a student teaching placement is made, teacher candidates are responsible for setting up a readiness meeting with their faculty supervisor and their cooperating teacher. This readiness meeting will be led by the faculty supervisor who will explain responsibilities of all involved.
Faculty supervisors will observe and document a student teacher candidate's progress over the course of the semester.
Teacher candidates must complete the edTPA and upload it to be scored.
Teacher candidates must receive a passing grade from both their faculty supervisor and their cooperating teacher to pass student teaching. There will be a Mid-Point and Final evaluation to be completed by the cooperating teacher and the teacher candidate.
