IESE Blocks

IESE Block 1 Field Experience

In Block 1 of the IESE program, teacher candidates are in a K-6 general education classroom every Wednesday. They begin their classroom placements after attending UMD Professional Day.

Each teacher candidate signs a Field Experience contract for their classroom placement and is responsible for contacting their cooperating teacher immediately after Professional Day. Teacher candidates also need to give an honorarium packet to their teacher and return it to Chris Engen in the Field Experience office.

Teacher candidates have a 5 week full time field experience in that same classroom. IESE faculty let teacher candidates know about the dates for the semester and visit candidates at their field experience site. Cooperating teachers evaluate progress in the field experience.

All details about field experience are found in the IESE Field Experience Handbook & IESE Lesson Plan Format

IESE teacher candidates complete course work related to their Block 1 courses in the school classroom. IESE faculty provide information about these assignments.
