Policies and Procedures

MTLE Special Accommodations

In general, test sessions have been designed to allow sufficient time to complete the test.

  • Individuals with a documented disability may submit a request for alternative testing arrangements, including additional time, at the time of registration. During the registration process you will be asked if you are requesting alternative testing arrangements. You will be required to submit a signed statement from a qualified professional describing your diagnosis or disability. In addition, you will complete the Alternative Testing Arrangements Request Form.
  • Individuals for whom English is not a primary language may request an extension of testing time, up to one and a half times the standard test session length. All requests for additional time require appropriate documentation and are subject to approval. To request additional time for this reason, you must submit a completed Alternative Testing Arrangements Request Form, and submit documentation that certifies that English is not your primary language.
  • For more information about Alternative Testing Arrangements, visit the MTLE website.

MTLE Retake Policy

Candidates who do not pass one or more subtest will have to retake just the portion that they did not pass. If you wish to retake a subtest, you must complete the registration process again. Please note that you must wait a minimum of 30 days before retaking the subtest.

Candidates who have failed a subtest five or more times may be eligible for a fee voucher for subsequent attempts. To request a retake fee voucher, contact Evaluation Systems (MTLE Program) at the toll-free number listed on page one of this document

MTLE Score Report Policy

MTLE Exams scores are released approximately 21 days after your exam test date. Your scores will be released on the score report date. Your score report will be available online as a PDF document for 2 years after the score report date. You may view, print, and save your score report from your account during that period. After the 2 year window, you will no longer be able to access your .pdf score report from Pearson. It is IMPORTANT to be sure to download and save your .PDF score report. If you do not save the score report date within that window there is a fee of $10 per copy online at request a score report.

  • Note: it is very important to put UMD as a recipient of your scores, this will help expedite license application processing.

Understanding your Test Results

The total subtest score is based on the number of raw score points earned on each section (multiple choice section and, for some tests, constructed response section); the proportion accounted for by each section, if applicable; and the scaling of that score. Raw scores are converted to a scale of 100 to 300.  Required passing score is a 240.
