Lead Trainer, Tribal Training and Certification Partnership
Candace LaGou is a graduate of UMD's Master's of Social Work program and comes to UMD with a wealth of experience working on behalf of American Indian families in Minnesota. She has worked in several roles for Red Lake Nation, where she is an enrolled member, advocating for children and families in the child welfare system. Candace was elected co-Chair of the ICWA Advisory Council while she worked for Red Lake, acting as the voice of the Red Lake nation on the Council. Most recently Candace worked as an ICWA Program Consultant and for the Minnesota Department of Human Services, acting as a liaison between the department and tribes, and providing ICWA compliance technical assistance throughout the state.
