Unified Early Childhood Education Overview
As of September 14, 2020, students may no longer be admitted to the UECH major program due to program restructuring.
The Unified Early Childhood Studies (UECH) major offers an interdisciplinary curriculum that prepares students for work in a variety of settings with children of diverse ability levels, from birth through age eight. It leads to dual Minnesota licensure in early childhood education (birth through 8) and early childhood special education (birth through 6).
All students complete a common core of courses in:
- child development
- parent-child relations
- early childhood curriculum and programming
- early childhood special education
- community resources
- educational leadership
- program administration

Where UECH graduates find employment:
- public schools
- community and private preschool programs
- early primary grades in elementary schools
- programs for children ages birth through six with identified disabilities or delays
- home- and center-based child care
- Head Start programs
- hospital-based settings
