Faculty spotlight: Katt Bongar Hoban

Meet Assistant Professor Katt Bongar Hoban, a new faculty member in the Department of Social Work.

When did you start at UMD?

Fall 2020

What do you like most about your job?

Educating, inspiring, and preparing future social workers and social change agents.

Why did you choose to work at UMD?

I knew UMD was the best place for me when I met the members of the social work department and observed how passionate they are about educating social workers.

What advice do you have for social work students?

While you're in school, explore many prospective pathways for your career, dive into critical thinking by learning about oppression and inequality, and build strong relationships with your classmates who will constitute your future professional networks for years to come.

At UMD and beyond, keep in mind that everyone struggles from time to time to feel secure and have a sense of belonging. Please trust that you most definitely do belong, you are enough, and that you will be successful.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I love to hang with my dogs, road bike, watercolor, play guitar and sing, engage in social movement mobilization, and stay active.
