Basic Skills Testing Options (Reading, Writing, and Math)

In order to be eligible for licensure candidates need to meet one of the following testing measures:

ACT Plus Writing Exam: 

Score reporting changes (sample report).

  • Taken prior to September 2015
    • Composite score of a 22 or higher
    • English/Writing subtest score of a 21 or higher
  • Taken September 2015 forward
    • Composite score of a 22 or higher
    • ELA subtest subset score of a 21 or higher

SAT Exam:

  • Taken prior to 3/5/2016
  • Reading score of a 510 or higher
  • Writing score of a 510 or higher
  • Mathematics score of a 520 or higher
  • Taken 3/5/2016 and forward
    • Reading + Writing score of a 550 or higher
    • Math score of a 570 or higher

MTLE NES Essential Academic Skills Exam
(Available starting 8/30/2016)
400-600 point scale

  • Reading score 520 or higher
  • Writing score 520 or higher
  • Math score 520 or higher

NES Multi State Essential Academic Skills Exam
(Available 6/9/2016-8/31/2016)
100-300 point scale

  • Reading score 205 or higher
  • Writing score 214 or higher
  • Math score 213 or higher

MTLE Basic Skills Exam (Taken prior to June 9, 2016)

  • Reading score of a 240 or higher
  • Writing score of a 240 or higher
  • Math score of a 240 or higher

 Praxis I (Taken prior to September 1, 2010)

  • PPST Reading:  173 or higher
  • PPST Writing:  172 or higher
  • PPST Math:  171 or higher

GRE

  • Taken prior to 8/1/2011
    • Verbal Reasoning score of a 450 or higher
    • Analytical Writing score of a 3 or higher
    • Quantitative Reasoning score of a 540 or higher
  • Taken starting 8/1/2011
    • Verbal Reasoning score of a 150 or higher
    • Analytical Writing score of a 3 or higher
    • Quantitative Reasoning score of a 145 or higher
