Student spotlight: Abigail Morris

Meet Abigail, a senior who is majoring in both Communication Sciences & Disorders and Hispanic Studies.

Why did you choose UMD?

I loved that UMD has the amenities and resources of a large university while having the close-knit communities of a smaller campus. I was particularly drawn to UMD’s CSD department because of the on-campus community clinic and the research opportunities.

What do you like most about your programs?

Both of my majors are fairly small, so I have been able to form close relationships with my classmates and professors. I truly feel like I’m fully supported in everything I do, and like there’s always someone to turn to!

What has been your most meaningful experience at UMD so far?

I recently conducted an undergraduate research project on eye gaze communication technology! I was able to present my research in a few settings. It was great to dedicate so much time to a topic that I feel so passionate about.

What advice do you have for incoming students?

Get yourself out there, and don’t be afraid to try new things! Everyone’s path is different, and UMD has so many great resources to guide you along the way.

What do you like to do in your free time?

From trail running, to mountain biking, to cross-country skiing and camping, I enjoy all the outdoor recreation that Duluth has to offer!
