Staff spotlight: Lynn McGraw

Meet Lynn McGraw, a staff member in the Department of Applied Human Sciences.

What is your title/role?

My title is Executive Office & Administrative Specialist. I am also the Graduate Program Coordinator for both the Master of Environmental Education and the Environmental Education Certificate programs.

When did you start working at UMD/with CEHSP?

I started at UMD in March 2011 in the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation. The department was renamed several years ago to the Department of Applied Human Sciences (AHS).

Why did you choose to work at UMD?

UMD has always had a very prominent place in the community and a certain excitement surrounding it. I felt working at UMD would provide interesting work and would be a great fit for me.

What do you like most about your job?

I love working with and interacting with people. The wonderful faculty, staff and students at UMD make my job very enjoyable. I am responsible for a wide variety of duties so my days are never boring and often fly by. It's very rewarding to have a position where the work I do is meaningful, important and valued. I am very fortunate to work in AHS where we work together so well and support each other.

What advice do you have for students?

Do your best, get involved and be kind to yourself! Before you know it you will be graduating, study hard and you will have a sense of pride knowing you did your best. Get involved and you will meet new friends, learn new skills and make important connections. Be kind to yourself, take breaks when you need them, find activities that you enjoy and hang out with people that make you smile.

What do you like to do in your free time?

My favorite thing is getting together with my family and friends, especially my two Grandsons. Being a Grandma is the BEST and I love hanging out with these little guys! During warmer months I enjoy camping and taking evening walks with my husband and our three year old Golden Retriever, Bailey. I also enjoy watching dance, planting flowers and looking for new recipes. I love to bake, especially if the recipe contains chocolate!
