Jess McCarthy-Nickila (she/her) is a graduate of the University of Minnesota Duluth's Master of Social Work program with an undergraduate degree from the College of Saint Scholastica in Psychology. Her work and research has been focused on the opioid epidemic, post-opioid overdose outreach and engagement, diversion and deflection programs, reentry programs, and the impact of the criminal-legal system on individuals with substance use disorders. She is passionate about the role of peer recovery in addressing substance use and is trained as a Peer Recovery Specialist. Outside of the office you can typically find her reading, looking for agates, going on rants, and spending time with her family.
