Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program

The April 9, 2020 Showcase has been CANCELLED

As of March 16, 2020, undergraduate students are not to return to campus to work on research projects. We recognize that it is in the best interest of students in credit-bearing research programs to complete their programs on time and are working to make this process as smooth as possible.  We also want students on research scholarships like UROP awards to complete their work so they can receive their final scholarship payment.

Within the limitations of current conditions, we have come up with some options for students (including those graduating) to finish their projects.  Students must still complete the ending requirements but we understand that projects may take unforeseen turns.  Here's a link to our options:   It's up to the student and mentor to find the best option for the student and their project.

Students may also deposit UROP project reports to the University Digial Conservancy,  This counts as a presentation, a requirement for UROP project, it will publicize work, make it findable through Google and provide a secure backup with a persistent URL.

How to make this work:

  1. Go to the University Digital Conservancy (UDC):

  2. Click on the gold “Upload to the UDC” button and log in with your UMD credentials

  3. Select a collection: “University of Minnesota Duluth>UMD Undergraduate Research Opportunities (UROP)> UMD Undergraduate Research Opportunities (UROP)”

  4. Follow the prompts and fill in the form, selecting “Next” to move to the next page when needed

  • For Type, choose “Presentation”

  • Read the Terms of Deposit before submitting

  • Click “Complete” when done and your work will be submitted!

If you have any questions specific to the digital conservancy please contact either Jodi Carlson Grebinoski ( or Laura Vavrosky (

The University of Minnesota's Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) offers financial awards twice yearly to full time undergraduates for research, scholarly, or creative projects undertaken in partnership with a faculty member. It encourages students to conduct research and pursue academic interests outside of their regular courses by employing them to work on special research projects. CEHSP students are eligible and encouraged to apply.  Additional webpages with UROP information can be found in the menu on this page.

Awards include up to $1500 in a scholarship award for hours worked and up to $300 for project-related expenses.

The next expected UROP Application/Proposal deadline date is Monday, February 17, 2019 at 11:59 PM for 2020 summer/fall semester projects.
