Welcome to the Department of Social Work!
We prepare students for rewarding social work careers that will grow and change over a lifetime. Our alumni are community leaders, therapists, administrators, child welfare practitioners and policy advocates to name just a few of the of the roles that they have pursued over the course of their careers. Our dynamic faculty has a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and research that makes a difference.
Our generalist (BSW) and advanced generalist (MSW) programs are designed to prepare students for social work practice in a range of practice settings and multiple levels of social work practice (individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities). It is one of the few programs in the nation that requires coursework on social work practice with American Indians.
Our Center for Regional and Tribal Child Welfare Studies provides exceptional leadership and ground breaking research to improve American Indian child welfare practice. Scholarships are available to support students pursuing child welfare careers in both our BSW and MSW programs.
Our MSW program has clinical scholarships for practice in the field of mental health and offers coursework in the MSW program that can be used to meet the educational requirements for becoming a clinical social worker in Minnesota and many other states. Our programs are fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
