Preston (he/him/él) received his PhD in Social Work from the Ohio State University and Master of Social Work from Metropolitan State University Denver. Prior to academia, he worked in a range of professional contexts including positive youth development, disability determination, case management, student support and intervention, and mental health policy advocacy. His research program centers on supporting student and professional development of capacities to engage in culturally responsive and anti-oppressive practices. Specifically, he is interested in how educational and training systems confront manifestations of whiteness and promote forms of allyship. He strives to create an inclusive classroom environment by including content from a variety of perspectives and encouraging students to incorporate their own background and experiences into learning activities. Outside of the classroom, Preston enjoys travelling and spending time outdoors with his family and friends.
