Kaitlyn McCracken started working at UMD in 2024. She serves as the director of student services for the Department of Social Work.
Why did you choose to work at UMD?
I've worked previously in higher education settings and knew that when I moved to Duluth, I wanted to continue working in that environment. There is a special energy that campus brings, and it's exciting to support students through this epic chapter of their lives.
What do you like most about your job?
The people. I have the best team & students! Our department is full of passionate folks with a shared mission, and our students are motivated and inspiring. It is very cool to be a part of.
Do you have any advice for students?
Take your time. College is such a short period of your life, so don't try and rush through it. Learn as much as you can, try something new and introduce yourself to folks who are different from you. There is so much to learn both inside and outside of the classroom, so take advantage of that.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I am one year into owning a home with my partner, so lately, my free time has been spent on house projects! Travelling, playing volleyball and taking in live music have also kept me busy this summer. I enjoy being outside, spending time with friends, and being creative.
