Iris Carufel is the American Indian Projects Coordinator in the Department of Social Work. She has a bachelor’s degree in interpersonal and organizational communication from the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point. Iris has worked closely with American Indian youth ranging from 8-24 years old in a variety of educational settings. She is dedicated to serving people holistically throughout their educational journeys with a strengths based lens. Iris loves to engage with students in cultural reconnection to language, lands, and culture as well as explore their intersectional identities including but not limited to neurodivergence and 2SLGBTQIA+.


Iris is an enrolled member of the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and a proud descendant of the Ho-Chunk and Santee Dakota Nations. She was raised in northern and central Wisconsin, but has always been drawn to Lake Superior. She loves nurturing her family as well as beading and learning about other cultural crafts.
