Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Minor Program Outcomes

  • Students will apply foundational knowledge of applied linguistics and second language acquisition in their curriculum sample. (Lesson plans: EDUC 3311)
  • Students will demonstrate knowledge of communicative language teaching methodologies. (Lesson plan and practicum observation: EDUC 3311 and EDUC 4099)
  • Students will demonstrate an intercultural perspective as relates to linguistic and cultural diversity in a P-12 classroom. (Reflective essay and lesson plan: EDUC 3311)
  • Students will create assessment tools for each of the language modalities (speaking, listening, reading, and writing). (Assessment unit: EDUC 3330)
  • Students will demonstrate knowledge of immersion education models and their foundational principles. (Case study of a one-way or two-way immersion program in Minnesota: EDUC 4050)

 

Teaching English as a Foreign Language Certificate Program Outcomes

  • Students will be able to identify the teaching principles and language instruction practices required for their teaching. (Research project: EDUC 3311)
  • Students will be able to assess their students' productive and receptive language skills. (Assessment unit: EDUC 3330)
  • Students will demonstrate self-awareness and reflective practice. (Reflective essay: EDUC 4099)
