When did you start at UMD?
I started my employment at UMD in 2018. Before that, I was a UMD student, graduating in 2005. (One of my degrees is in Teaching Social Studies from right here in CEHSP!)
Why did you choose to work at UMD?
I grew up in the neighborhood next to UMD and went to school here, so there is a bit of the Bulldog spirit in me. UMD is a great community that I wanted to be a part of professionally.
What do you like most about your job?
My current role is to advise the IESE and STEP programs. As a former high school teacher, I really enjoy working with future teachers. Each student has their own story about what inspired them to want to join the teaching profession. I enjoy supporting the students at the beginning of their journey to becoming teachers.
Do you have any advice for students?
Be kind to yourself. College is a great time to explore what living a balanced life means to you. You can develop skills that you can take into the professional world after graduation.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I am an avid downhill skier. During the weekends in winter, you will find me on the ski hill. I enjoy being outdoors by Lake Superior or hiking in one of the many parks. When the weather is warmer, I like to garden and work on house projects. There's something satisfying about figuring out and completing a home project yourself.
