Student spotlight: Johnny McCormick

Meet Johnny McCormick, a senior in the Exercise & Rehabilitation Sciences program.

Why did you choose UMD?

To play football for a great program and because of all Duluth has to offer, especially the outdoor activities.

What do you like most about your programs?

The exercise science professors are very personable and do a great job mixing in hands-on labs with the coursework. Some of them are also contributors to textbooks used around the nation in exercise science programs. Because the program has a lot of students that pursue grad school, the professors also challenge the students quite a bit which tends to do a good job preparing them for future schooling/careers.

What has been your most meaningful experience at UMD so far?

As an athlete, beating the #3 ranked Mankato football team in front of a record-setting home crowd this fall. As a student, I really enjoyed all of Dr. Keener’s classes. He challenged me a lot but I learned a ton and feel very prepared for my future endeavors.

What advice do you have for incoming students?

Find a good routine for managing your time, have fun, and don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and meet new people!

What do you like to do in your free time?

Outside of football and school, I really enjoy mountain biking, downhill skiing, and playing golf.
