Rebecca Hoversten-Mellem from Amberwing receives the 7th annual "Outstanding MSW Field Supervisor and Civic Engagement Award"

The Department of Social Work at the University of Minnesota Duluth announced the 7th annual "Outstanding MSW Field Supervisor and Civic Engagement Award". This is an award that recognizes a field supervisor who has demonstrated outstanding personal and professional civic engagement. "Civic engagement" includes providing quality supervision to students completing their field placements, encouraging students' involvement in their communities both in their fieldwork and outside of field activities. The Department seeks to recognize field supervisors who go "above and beyond" in their work with MSW students and in their communities.

The recipient for 2016 is Rebecca Hoversten-Mellem, MSW, LICSW. Rebecca is a clinical social worker providing psychotherapy to children and adolescents in her work at Amberwing with Essentia Health in Duluth, MN. The wellness center provides mental health and substance abuse services for children, adolescents, young adults and their families.

Rebecca was nominated by Ashley Kamantauskas, MSW student who completed her Field I internship at Amberwing during the 2015-2016 academic year.

MSW student Ashley Kamantauskas nominated Rebecca for this award

Rebecca served as the MSW field supervisor for Ashley's field placement at Amberwing. In her nomination Ashley notes, "During weekly supervision meetings with her I was able to discuss ethical concerns along with my personal challenges in relation to my professional goals and do so without feeling judged or talked down to. Becky always found time to answer my questions about particular clients and disorders and encouraged me to review the DSM-5, complete intake interviews and charting for clients and sit in with other colleagues at Amberwing. I feel truly blessed to have worked with Becky during my transition into the field of social work."

Rebecca will accept the award at the Department of Social Work Annual Fall Field Supervisor Training Luncheon on September 26, 2016 at Woodland Hills in Duluth, Minnesota
