Staff spotlight: Amy Madsen

Meet Amy Madsen, Title IV-E Child Welfare Program Director since 2017

Why did you choose to work at UMD?

I saw the job description for the position and felt immediately that it matched up with my skills and experiences. It was one of those situations where it is a unique role, so I hadn't even known to look for it, but when I saw it, it just felt right.

What do you like most about your job?

I love working with students! That is absolutely the highlight of my job. I have a social work background, and I am fortunate that this job setting offers flexibility to meet the needs of students in a way that works for them. I also enjoy the cyclical nature of the university. It's fun to have a seasons of tasks and projects that shift throughout the year.

Do you have any advice for students?

I believe that people have a lot of inner knowledge about themselves, so trust yourself.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Spend time with family and friends, run, cross country ski, swim in the creek, garden and read.
