Staff spotlight: Becky Blackwood

Meet Becky Blackwood, Executive Office & Administrative Specialist in the Department of Psychology.

What is your title/role?

I am the Executive Office & Administrative Specialist for the Department of Psychology, and the Graduate Program Coordinator for the Master of Arts in Psychological Sciences program (MAPS).

When did you start working at UMD/with CEHSP?

I started working for UMD in October of 2019. I worked at the UMD suite of offices in the Duluth Tech Village. I moved over to my current position and CEHSP in August of this year.

Why did you choose to work at UMD?

I love being part of a campus community, and at UMD in particular. I really enjoy being around the students and the culture of learning. There's an energy you don't find anywhere else.

What do you like most about your job?

That's hard to pick, because I really do love my job. I would have to say the faculty and staff in my department have been fantastic! I've really enjoyed getting to know them, and they've been very welcoming to me.

What advice do you have for students?

Enjoy the process. Life will take many twists and turns you don't see coming, and you don't have to have it all figured out. Be open to new experiences along the way.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I love to get out and explore the North Shore with my kids whenever I get the chance! I didn't grow up here, so I feel like I'm still a bit of a tourist. It's been fun to learn about all the hidden gems. I also love to knit! Many of my evenings are spent with my needles in my hands and my dog on my lap.
