Why did you choose UMD?

I chose UMD because of its location. I had grown up coming to Duluth a couple times a year and knew I always wanted to come back for college. It is a beautiful city with a small-town feel, and I couldn’t love that more!

What do you like most about your programs?

I love how small my major is! We are a really tight-knit community who all have each other's backs. It is incredible to have had the opportunity these last few years to learn alongside so many dedicated students who are, for the most part, all headed down similar career paths. Additionally, the faculty come from diverse backgrounds in their careers which has really shaped my education for the better!

What has been your most meaningful experience at UMD so far?

There are so many! If I had to pick one, I got to study abroad in Galway, Ireland during Spring Semester 2020. It was one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences of my life. I learned so much about other cultures, myself, and how to navigate the unknown!

What advice do you have for incoming students?

Get out of your comfort zone! This advice really goes beyond college but take the time now to learn how to do this well. Trust me, you will surprise yourself with how much you are capable of!

What do you like to do in your free time?

I play seven instruments! My most recent and favorite instrument lately has been the French horn! I started learning last January and am now playing it in the concert band here at UMD. Music is by far my favorite hobby and is a great way to destress at the end of a busy day!
